Josh Johnson and Ben Marquis of Kennebunk,Maine with a late season double...Two smoke filled blasts 10 seconds apart..and when the smoke cleared, these two bucks were laying less than 30 yards apart. Congratulations you guys...well done! “We’re going to need a bigger boat” I grew up hunting in MA, but after enlisting in the Army, Uncle Sam took most of my hunting seasons. I moved back to Maine in 2002, and after returning from Iraq in 2005 I rededicated myself to deer hunting. I have spent many hours in the woods since 2006 and never had a deer get in my cross hairs. This year for the first time, I forgot to apply for my doe permit and of course had two walk underneath me on 20 November. On the afternoon of 23 November I decided to take a friends advice and launch my kayak into a secluded water way (god knows it was warm enough). I paddled for 1/2 hr scanning the wood line for hard wood and a change in elevation. It was getting late and I wanted to get settled in. I went ashore and found the woods so thick that I decided to not go very far. About 30yrds from the water, I found a perfect blow down. Wind and water to my back, I hung my scents about 15yrds in front of me. I started my calling sequence (can 3x, grunt 2x every 1/2 hr). About 3:45 he trotted in from my left, grunting all the way. That was the thickest angle for a shot. I held fast and he silently backed off. He was moving around to my 12:00 and every time I heard a branch snap, I hit the can and grunt once. The last time I looked at my watch, I had 8 minutes left. What the hell, I hit the can one more time. He came barreling straight in on me! When he stopped I stood up. To my surprise, a HUGE rack that lit up the dark forest. I shot him at 8yrds. Getting him out with my kayak was not easy! Dennis L. Sayce Jr Durham, Maine Michael Willie - 205 lb dressed weight - 10 Point Monster I shot this buck on opening day for the residents of Maine which is the 31st of October 2009. That deer should have been shot by my 11 year old daughter, but she didn't want to get out of bed. I was setting in her ground blind in a small field in the back of our house. 20 minutes into opening day a big doe came out on the edge of the feild and walked to an apple tree in the north end of the field and started to eat off the tree. I watched her for about ten minutes when I heard what sounded like a freight train coming through to woods. It scared the doe off, and out came this monster sausage. I had to pause for a moment and just look at that monster deer. At first I thought I was seeing things, then he put his nose to the ground and walked the same path the doe had taken ten minutes earlier. As he stopped at the apple tree to have a quick bite to eat I got him in the cross hairs and fired. It was a perfect shot, double lung cleaning the very to of the heart, not a bit of meat was ruined. I shot him in Waldoboro, Maine which is located in Lincoln County. I shot him with a Savage 111 Classic 25-06 cal. My buddy and I pased it out at around 240 yards. I have already recieved my patch and certificate for The Maine SportsMan for the Biggest Bucks In Maine Club because he weighed 205lbs. without liver, heart and lungs. I am waiting the 60 day drying period to have it scored by Maine Antler Skull and Trophy Club. I had him scored by an official MASTC scorer and his gross green score was 156 6/8 inches. We are sure he will qualify MASTC and NewEngland big buck. David Thayer - New Durham, NH - MaineHunters.com Pro-Staff - with a same day, two States, two different weapons, same day double! I shot the doe in the morning in Acton, ME with my muzzle loader. The spike was taken that same afternoon with my bow in Alton,NH. spike weighed in at 125lbs and the doe about 75 lbs. He eventually presented me with a 18 yard shot, he only ran about 80 yards after the shot. I havent weighed him in yet but Im going to say he's 185-190lbs. He's my best bow deer from NH so far!
